A mini guide.
Say you have a total of 36 (non-consecutive) hours to spend in Singapore. What would you do?
As any good traveler you would obviously take advantage of the fact that you have such limited time and see everything you possibly could see.
Well. Wouldn’t you believe it!
That’s exactly what we did not do.

No, in fact, as we had an 8 hour layover in Singapore we decided to do absolutely nothing and stay at the airport for the entirety of the 8 hours.
(Ok ok hear me out. We knew that we had a 24 hour layover on the way back which meant we’d be able to go into the city and explore).
Just a few more things about the airport, or rather, our time there:
- Jean got Burger King. Because why get proper Asian food when you can get mediocre fast food burgers that looked sketch
- Since there was a free movie theatre and I needed a nap, we watched Dune 2 while I made a makeshift bed on the floor of the cinema
- When that didn’t work, we found a sofa in a corner and I passed the F out.
This airport though.
The butterfly garden?? The sunflower garden??
Insanity.
It took us a minute to understand that the concept of a ‘sun’ does exist outside of Belgium.
Did you know that sunflowers face the sun? And when there is no sun they face each other?
I don’t know what that says about them facing me but eh. I digress.

On our return flight, we grabbed a transit hotel so we could at least feign an effort to sleep. We’d also be able to go sightseeing after.
Did you know. (There are a lot of ‘did you knows’ in this post.)
That when its 90% humidity its really hot and sticky? And that you probably shouldn’t wear clothes that you want to fly in because they’ll be thicker and make you feel hot and sticky?
I had one objective in Singapore: become the main characters of “Crazy Rich Asians.” I was to fully immerse myself in THE quintessential travel movie.

I’m pleased to report we did very well.

So. Here’s the thing. By the time we got to the city, had a coffee and breakfast and all that, it was already nearly 3pm. There was so much to see, but physically and mentally it was just not going to be it.
In our short 6 hour venture to the city we saw:
- The Gardens by the bay
- The Marina
- Had a fantastic lunch at Banana Leaf
- Visited a few different Hawker Centers
- China Town.

If you have time to grab food, I highly recommend Newtons Hawker Center or Banana Leaf. Banana leaf is Indian Malaysian (admittedly I was slightly confused when I was served a deconstructed biryani).
Ok so. Basically. Everytime I go to Asia I become a different person right. Different in the sense that I become a plant absorbing all the sun and good and warmth.
This meant that I had of course started envisioning our lives in Singapore.
And that of course meant that I had to ask a few locals what life was like in Singapore.
Everyone was so nice. They all said the same, life was incredibly convenient, food was fantastic, weather is great.
But. It’s incredibly competitive.
And apart from food, its really quite expensive.
Nevertheless.
I am scanning those LinkedIn job announcements like my life depends on it.
(Not really, but a girl can dream, right?)
Singapore was great.

While I don’t quite have an itinerary, I do have some honorable mentions of what to eat:
- Laksa
- Cereal Prawns
- Hokkien mee
